1. With a quick drawing Frank blocks in first
his dark value, which helps him to establish
all the lighter values, especially in the clouds.

2. He brings in the blue in the sky and tones
the foreground with a warm color.

3. He then works the cloud areas and trees.

4. He brings in the road, which leads to a
pond and works the grasses.

5. Then he adds highlights to the trees and
grasses.

6. He decides the road is just to obvious, so
he changes it.

7. He adds more work in the clouds, trees
and grasses.

Frank said, "It's not always the way I'll do it.
Sometimes I'm guided by intuition or just a gut
feeling. The photos seem to have lost a lot of
light values in the clouds."

The finished landscape - a road through grasses.
